Swash Channel Wreck and BU research provide focus of BBC television documentary.

Bournemouth University’s (BU) research and recoveries from the Swash Channel Wreck has been featured in an episode of the BBC television show ‘Britain’s Secret Seas’.

The Wreck is being hailed as one of the most important in UK waters and featured in the recently aired episode, entitled ‘The Bustling South’ (29 May at 8pm on BBC 2).

BU’s David Parham and Paola Palma, Lecturers in Marine Archaeology, both appear in this episode and provide expert analysis into the site map of the wreck and share their research into the sea life that is threatening its future.

Our BU Marine Archaeology team have been studying it since 2006 - their aim is to make the wreck and its artefacts more accessible within the community. Recently the team have focused on raising and preserving parts of the wreck before it deteriorates to the point where there will be nothing left to study.

A Swash Channel Wreck exhibition is currently being planned with Poole Museum. Details will be published as they become available.
