Bob Ainsworth MP visits Bournemouth University

18 February 2013

Member of Parliament Bob Ainsworth visited Bournemouth University this week to engage with a number of Politics and Media students.

Mr Ainsworth MP is a visiting fellow in the Media School and is involved in teaching current undergraduate Politics and Media students as well as promoting the study of Politics at BU.

Heather Savigny, Senior Lecturer in Politics within the Media School, said, "Bob's engagement in the degree is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain first hand access to accounts of the way in which politics works, to understand what goes on in the 'corridors of power' as well as being able to practically engage with the realities of day to day politics."

Speaking after a teaching session with some of the students on the subject of the Eastleigh by–election, Bob Ainsworth MP said, "I have been a couple of times in the past and Bournemouth is a very nice place to visit and I have spoken to media students [at BU] a couple of times in the past. It is an enormously rewarding thing to do. I really enjoy it."

Mr Ainsworth continued, "The chance to teach and have some impact on the next generation is not to be sniffed at. It's not just about [teaching] politics, it is much bigger than that. It is about citizenship at the end of the day. I am looking forward to giving young people the chance to start thinking about why the people who run this country do the things they do."

Bob Ainsworth will be returning to BU in the future to continue his involvement with students and his experience is sure to be invaluable to a new generation of politics students.
