Stephen Page, Professor of Tourism at Bournemouth University, featured on You and Yours on 28 January 2013 talking about the growing trend of 'staycations' in the UK and what this could mean for the hotel and UK tourism industries.
Speaking on the current state of the self–catering sector in the UK to Julian Worricker, Stephen said, "The guest house and bed and breakfast sector has been squeezed out as the budget hotels have grown and the self–catering sector has become far more established."
Stephen also had some advice for holidaymakers looking for a little break this year, saying, "The pound doesn't buy you so much overseas anymore, staying at home is actually a slightly cheaper option if you are looking at your whole area of spending."
TripAdvisor has become a trusted source of information for most consumers, according to Stephen, and it is playing a big part in the tourism industry in the UK.
