BU receives positive reviews in The Sunday Times University Guide 2013.

New facilities, great media courses and a location by some of Britain’s best beaches are among Bournemouth University’s features listed in The Sunday Times University Guide 2013.

The Guide features the University League Tables, comparing universities across the country on subjects including student satisfaction and the quality of research.

The article states that BU has a "long track record for delivering vocational courses", with many of the 200 courses offered by the university accredited by professional bodies.

It also draws attention to the university’s reputation for computer animation, saying: "The ground–breaking work of the university’s National Centre for Computer Animation won a Queen’s Anniversary prize this year.

"For the past 23 years, the centre has been at the forefront of computer animation in Britain.

"Its influence is reflected by the fact that 70 graduates worked on four of the five films nominated for best visual effects at the 2012 Oscars."

The article also notes that all undergraduate courses at BU will offer a professional placement, and the university claims to have more full–time undergraduates on sandwich courses that any other institution in the country – perhaps explaining the high number of graduate level jobs secured when students leave.

It mentions upgrades to the facilities offered to students – including the sports performance and food development laboratories and the academic kitchen, which have been refurbished and expanded for the start of the new academic year.

The article also talks about the new sports facilities at Talbot Campus – which include a new training zone, studio space and refurbished badminton courts – and partnerships which allow students to take part in external sporting activities, like golf and beach volleyball.

It says: "Sandwiched between the New Forest and some of Britain’s best beaches, Bournemouth’s students have plenty of options for relaxing after lectures."

The article also features Student Union president Louise Bryant, who talks about her experiences at Bournemouth University.

She says her first impressions were the "friendly student ambassadors" who "put you at ease instantly", and the work being done to improve student relations with the community.

She adds the deal–clincher is that BU’s media courses are "some of the best in the country".
