BU placements gain media attention

16 November 2012

Bournemouth University student Jenn Carew was featured in the Plymouth Herald (via thisisplymouth.co.uk) alongside her placement employers in a feature that highlighted the positive effect of BU's placement scheme.

Fireproof PR in Plymouth has employed Jenn for the year and The Herald's opening line read, "Jenn Carew is proof they [internships] can be rewarding for students and employers."

The placement was set up proactively, with Jenn approaching the firm with a view to doing her placement year there. Her boss, Emma Taynton-Young, was quoted in the article as saying, "She gets to do everything we do, but not on her own. I get to see what people are learning at university and I get another set of eyes on things."

Jenn, studying Public Relations within the Media School at BU, is one of many students who have opted to take a year in industry as 82.5% of third year students have opted to take a placement year as a part of their course.
