World Travel Market starts and ends with BU

Bournemouth University’s exhibition stand at World Travel Market Bournemouth University chaired two important seminars on the future of the tourism industry.

The World Travel Market came to a close with Bournemouth University hosting one of the final events at the four day travel and tourism conference.

Chaired by Professor Dimitrios Buhalis alongside a panel including BU’s Philip Alford and recent honorary doctorate at Bournemouth University Jean–Claude Baumgarten; the panel discussed the progression of the tourism industry and what tourists can expect in the future.

The World Travel Market welcomed exhibitors from all over the world and Bournemouth University’s School of Tourism also showcased their talents through their exhibition stand.

BU was the only university to exhibit at the event, hosted at the ExCeL Centre in London. The yearly trade event was attended by over 5,000 exhibitors from all over the world.

In addition to the Tourism Futures forum, BU also chaired one of the first talks at the event; focussing on e–tourism and how the industry is benefitting from an explosion of new travel technology and internet media.

Before the event, Professor Dimitrios Buhalis commented,

We work closely with the World Travel Market, where we will be exhibiting our courses, research and consultancy services as we show off BU talent in terms of students, graduates and staff to the global tourism industry."
