Fifteen Bournemouth University (BU) students are competing at the Olympic Park in the finals of the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Outdoor Athletics Championships between 4 to 7 May.
The BUCS championships are part of the London Prepares series for the 2012 Olympic Games. They are the official athletics test event for London.
BU students will be competing across several of both the track and field events over the weekend including long jump, javelin, running and hurdles.
56,000 tickets have been sold for the event and 40,000 people will fill the Olympic Park on Saturday night to watch students compete in the throwing and sprinting events.
The Championships are particularly important to Jemma Teweksbury, a sports development and coaching sciences student, who recently missed out playing in the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division because of a knee injury.
Jemma who is competing in the javelin event said “I’m really looking forward to it, will be a great opportunity to compete in an Olympic stadium. I’m hoping my knee holds out for the weekend!”
