Bournemouth University has appointed Tiantian Zhang as the new Head of The Graduate School.
Professor Zhang previously worked at University of Bedfordshire as the Director of Institute of Research in the Applied Natural Sciences, where she was their first ever PhD student.
She is particularly interested in cryopreservation of gametes of aquatic species and has been recognised internationally for her important work in species conservation, animal reproduction and biomedical research. Her research group also works on the international ‘Frozen Ark Project’ which aims to preserve biological materials of all endangered species.
“It is a very exciting time to join the Graduate School, as BU has made a real commitment to postgraduate research development evidenced by our ‘100 Doctorial Opportunities’ programme which offers 100 PhD studentships or scholarships each year for the next six years.”
Tiantian outlined the aims for her new role, saying “The Graduate School is committed to inspiring and mentoring the postgraduate community at BU, we will provide a focus for the University’s postgraduate community and I am looking forward to leading the delivery of a distinctive BU Postgraduate Student Experience.”
Professor Zhang received her bachelor’s degree at Liaoning University in China and her MPhil at Middlesex University in Environmental Biology, before obtaining her PhD in Cryobiology at the University of Bedfordshire in 1994.
