BU academics comment on the Greek elections on BBC Radio 5 live and in The Cutting Edge News.

Greece went back to the polls for the second time in as many months on 17 June 2012 to vote for a government that would decide the fate of their future in the Eurozone.

Dr Roman Gerodimos told The Cutting Edge News: “Unless whoever gets elected can put together a government on Monday that is stable and viable, then I think it is only a matter of time until Greece has to leave the Eurozone.”

The official results of the election showed that pro-bailout party New Democracy won with 29.5 per cent of the vote. This is not enough to form a government so they will have to join forces with another party to form a coalition government.

Talking to BBC Radio 5 live about the crisis in Greece, Professor Dimitrios Buhalis said: “What is happening, and what has been the main discussion in Greece is that the terms and conditions of the bailout are not supporting Greece in terms of the growth that is required to be able to increase the development and support the prosperity of the people. So the discussion is, what is the best way forward and how can the reorganisation and rationalisation of the Greek economy actually happen in the future.”
