Kashmir Mangat, a student at Bournemouth University, was interviewed for The Telegraph about Clearing. The article, which was published on 19 of July, aims to motivate students to be prepared for the “stressful process” of Clearing, whilst providing reassurance that – provided adequate research is done – the whole thing can “turn out well”.
Although not a fun couple of hours – Kashmir’s mother, Jasminder Mangat, found Clearing “a rush and so unpredictable” – the family feel they have learned from the experience. The unexpected change in direction has also turned out for the better. Having achieved the grades ABC, Kashmir was able to gain a place to study Nutrition at BU, with hopes of becoming a Dietician in the future.
Last year, 51000 students found a place at university through clearing, and thousands more will do the same this year. It’s an incredibly important decision to make in a few hours. UCAS Editorial manager Caroline Russell told The Telegraph: “it’s a good idea for students and their parents to start thinking in advance about what alternative courses they might consider and how conversations with admissions staff might go… Prepare for that phone call as you would an interview.”
