Students ‘Speak Up!’ for BU

7 December 2011

SUBU Speak Up BU students give their thoughts on life on and off campus at Speak Week.

Students at Bournemouth University have taken the opportunity to ‘Speak Up!’ during a week of activities aimed at getting their thoughts and opinions on everything to do with life both on and off the campus.

Co-ordinated by the Students’ Union at BU, Speak Week gave students on both of the University’s campuses the opportunity to write their candid and constructive thoughts on speakers’ walls. Student representatives, wearing purple ‘Speak Up!’ hoodies, were on hand to meet and greet their peers alongside Students’ Union officers to chat about anything and everything that affects them day-to-day. And at the end of the week, students had their faces painted (a la Pudsey) to show their support for Children In Need.

“The whole week was designed to engage students and encourage them to speak up about their experience at BU – positive, negative, academic and non-academic,” enthused Kate Evans, Students’ Union Vice-President (Education). “We had a fantastic response with hundreds of students engaging with us and telling us how proud they are study at Bournemouth University.

“They love being in Bournemouth and at the University,” she continued. They’ve also told us how much they love their course and the whole student experience and they’ve been constructive about how things can be improved.

“We’ll now take away all of the feedback we’ve received and work with the University to see how best to take things forward,” Kate concluded.
