Bournemouth University has launched a new scholarship to help international students from five countries fund their postgraduate studies.

In recognition of the increasing number of students applying to study at BU from Ghana, India, Nigeria, Thailand and Vietnam, the new BU Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship is available to nationals of these countries who are applying to read for a taught Masters degree commencing in October 2009.

Ten scholarships (two per country) are available, each worth a 50% reduction in tuition fees for the duration of the course.

The initiative commemorates 100 years of Higher Education in Bournemouth and aims to encourage and support international students from countries where BU continues to raise its profile.

To be considered for the BU Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship, students must demonstrate an exceptional academic and personal profile in their supporting statement on their application form and list outstanding achievements in their professional career or personal life. They will also need to highlight how they plan to use the qualification obtained at BU when returning to their home country.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Curran said: “BU was granted University title in 1992 but there is clear evidence that Higher Education has been provided in Bournemouth since 1908. We wanted to commemorate this fact and have chosen this occasion to launch the BU Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship”.

Dannielle Elster, Head of International Relations & Admissions, said: “Our professional courses are increasingly popular in many countries. The BU Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship provides the opportunity for high calibre students from five countries to study at BU.”
