BU Vice-Chancellor hosts annual awards ceremony to celebrate staff success. |
An awards ceremony to recognise staff commitment to student learning has been held at Bournemouth University (BU).
The BU Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning honoured academic staff for their innovative and creative approaches to learning. The awards also recognised staff commitment to providing students with the best possible educational experience.
Each of the BU’s Academic Schools nominated individuals and teams of staff for the awards, which culminated in the evening reception to celebrate staff success and best practice across the University. In total, 20 awards were presented.
Addressing staff, Professor Paul Curran congratulated staff for “driving education at BU forward” and “their commitment to enhancing their own development”.
Initiatives celebrated during the ceremony included: academic citizenship; improving student learning via the use of online materials; delivering cross-School units for academic practice and skills; personalising the student experience; development and facilitation of e-learning; releasing staff potential; and exploring the efficacy of group work in order to fill the ‘employability gap’.
Those awarded will share these models of best practice at staff development seminars, in journals and at BU’s annual Enhancing Education conference. Staff will also be encouraged to put forward their work to future national award nominations such as the National Learning & Teaching Fellowships.
