It's official - BU is the highest rated new University in the UK. |
According to the Guardian University Guide (2009), we are number one amongst all of the country's new universities.
We are also first for Tourism, Transport and Travel courses for the second year in a row. And we are highly placed for Sports Science (4th this year, moving up 16 places); Engineering ? General (5th) and Media (8th).
Overall, we’ve placed 38th in the Guardian Guide. During the last two years alone, we have leapt a remarkable 41 places in the Guide.
“This represents a magnificent achievement by our staff, students and supporters,” says BU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Curran. “Reaching the top third of this league table is impressive but to outperform those 60 institutions who gained University title since 1992 is simply tremendous.”
Our status as Britain’s leading university for Tourism comes as no surprise to Professor Nigel Hemmington, Dean of our School of Services Management where Tourism is based.
“We are number one because we have world-class staff in tourism, hospitality and leisure, all of whom have a focused commitment to our students,” says Professor Hemmington. “The partnerships and close engagement we enjoy with many companies and organisations in the Tourism industry helps ensure that our research is current and that we continue to provide a relevant, up-to-date and vibrant educational experience.”
The Guardian University Guide is currently accessible online. A printed supplement to The Guardian newspaper is published on Tuesday, 13 May. The full guide will be published as a book later in the year.
