The BU Cricket team warmed up for the coming campaign with a victory over the Dorset Minor Counties Cricket team. |
The students won the toss and put Dorset into bat.
Dorset threatened to get off to a flier before wickets from Eric Linge and Dave Ball pegged back the scoring rate.
The screw was tightened by the miserly bowling of John Hess (12 overs, 0 wickets for 33 runs) and the excellent seam up bowling from Dan Sizer (12 overs, six maidens and four wickets for 32 runs).
Sizer used movement off the pitch and good changes of pace to destroy Dorset’s middle order taking the key wicket of Glyn Tregus who looked dangerous as he made 59.
Dorset finished all out for 174 after 48 overs.
BU got off to a great start with Dan Jarman (31) and Steve Taylor (34) showing good form in an opening partnership of 71.
Jack Wells (30) and Cil Van de Merwe (25) also batted well, but Bournemouth wobbled to 169-9 and needed the experienced John Hess to come in and finish the game off with an unbeaten 12.
A great success for BU and a great run out for both sides. It is hoped that this will become an annual fixture.
BU opens the BUSA Premier League South season with a tough away fixture at University of Wales Institute-Cardiff on 29 April.
The team’s first home fixture, at Bournemouth’s Dean Park Cricket Ground, is May 2 against Southampton University.
