One of the world?s leading authorities on volcanic activity will kick-off a brand new series of open lectures at Bournemouth University later this month.. |
Professor Nick Petford will focus on ‘How Volcanoes Work’ to launch the BU Lecture Series “It’s a Wonderful World” on Thursday, September 28th.
Professor Petford, who recently joined BU as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise), will share his expertise and experiences with an audience drawn from the community and the campus from 5.30 pm in the Allsebrooke Lecture Theatre on the University’s Talbot Campus.
“I’m very pleased to open this special series of lectures which we hope will appeal to a wide range of people from across the community,” says Professor Petford, a renowned expert on volcanoes who recently presented the BBC 2 programme Krakatoa Revealed.
“I’ve travelled the world to study and monitor the volatile behaviour of the earth’s most unpredictable and destructive force and I look forward to giving those who attend the lecture an insider’s knowledge of how volcanoes are formed and how they are able to unleash their power.”
Following Professor Petford in the BU Lecture Series over the months to come will be talks by other leading experts.
This includes ‘Museums: Society's Flexible Friends’ on October 26th presented by Stuart Davies, one of BU’s esteemed Visiting Professors and leading authority on the curation and development of museum collections.
This is followed on November 30 by ‘Beyond Stonehenge’, a radical (and festive) new interpretation of the eponymous monument by BU Professor Timothy Darvill and Professor Geoffrey Wainwright, both world experts on landscape archaeology and the history of the site.
Admission to the BU Lecture Series is free but pre-booking is requested by telephoning (01202) 961033 or emailing bulectures@bournemouth.ac.uk.
