The Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Mrs Valerie Lane-Fox Pitt-Rivers, has made her first official visit to Bournemouth University. |
As Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Pitt-Rivers is the official representative of Her Majesty the Queen in the county and serves as Dorset’s ‘first citizen’.
Her visit to the University’s Talbot Campus included a tour of the Library & Learning Centre, including the new LearnHigher ‘Courtyard Centre’.
Mrs Pitt-Rivers was also welcomed by the Media School where she was able to see the new renovations made in Weymouth House, taking in the new television studio and visiting with students on the MA in Multimedia Journalism.
“It is an absolute delight to visit Bournemouth University which plays such an important role in the county,” she said, “and I look forward to returning many times over as the University continues to progress and build its reputation in so many areas.”
Mrs Pitt-Rivers also attended BU’s recent Autumn Award Ceremonies at the Bournemouth International Centre when her predecessor as Lord Lieutenant, Captain Michael Fulford-Dobson, was presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Arts.
Another person with a BU connection that is also linked to the Lord Lieutenant is former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gillian Slater who now serves as a Deputy Lord Lieutenant.
