The countdown to 2012 is on and the time is right for regional business to share in the benefits that hosting Olympic events will bring. |
Our Business School is setting the pace for the region through 'Sharing the Flame', a major project linked to the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
Funded by the Learning & Skills Council through the European Social Fund, 'Sharing the Flame' is aimed at raising awareness in Dorset and the wider South West Region of the business opportunities associated with the games in Weymouth.
The Business School is 'Sharing the Flame' through a series of master classes to be held in Bournemouth, Weymouth, Taunton and Bristol. These sessions are free of charge to participants.
The first master class in Bournemouth is on Tuesday 27 November and will focus on 'Rethinking your business for 2012'.
Three further sessions complete the series, including:
The master class series will also be held for businesses in Weymouth and Portland on 12 December, 9 January, 16 January and 23 January.
Dates for Bristol and Taunton are yet to be scheduled.
Professor Colin Armistead is Head of Research and Established Chair and Director of the Centre for the Studies of Organisational Relationships. He explains that these sessions will provide the detailed understanding necessary to take advantage of the 'environment' of the Olympics and Paralympics and the sailing events taking place in Weymouth and Portland.
"Through 'Sharing the Flame', we'll be helping to raise the skills and expertise of small and medium-sized enterprises throughout the region as they bid for Olympic contracts and look forward to the economic and social legacies that the games will leave behind after 2012.
"The master classes will enhance the business capability of local businesses that can take advantage of Olympic opportunities and build a legacy of business skills and expertise amongst our local SMEs."
'Sharing the Flame' is also offering 300 free places on short training courses for local SMEs on effective business writing; building effective relationships; presentation skills; influeincing others at work; managing improvement and languages.
