BU toxicology expert Professor David Osselton will be discussing the historical use of deadly poisons at a public lecture on Wednesday 21 January at 6.00pm on our Talbot Campus.
In “Poisons are my Business” Professor Osselton, who is Director of BU’s Centre for Forensic Science, will introduce the audience to the use and misuse of poisons over the centuries. This will be illustrated by examples of notorious criminal poisoners and how modern forensic toxicology has developed over the last 200 years.
Professor Osselton, who joined BU in January 2007, is responsible for the development of teaching and research in all areas of forensic science. His specialist area of study is in the field of drugs, alcohol and toxicology, an area in which he has over 34 years of experience.
After joining the UK Forensic Science Service in 1974, he became Head of Drugs, Alcohol and Toxicology Research at the Home Office Central Research Establishment in Aldermaston. In 1991 was appointed Head of Toxicology for the Forensic Science Service where he developed toxicology services and advised Government departments on drug testing.
Professor Osselton has been involved in a number of high-profile cases providing evidence for the defence and prosecution both in the UK and overseas. He is internationally known for his research work and lectures widely at conferences around the world as a plenary and keynote speaker.
