Inaugural lecture for patent professor

BU lecture One of the country's leading patent and trademark law attorneys delivers his Professorial Inaugural Lecture this month.

Paul Cole, recently appointed as Visiting Professor to BU’s Centre for Legal Studies, will deliver the lecture ‘Patents and Scientific Integrity’ on 21 February 2008.

In his lecture, Professor Cole will compare the experiences of inventors and scientific authors, both of whom face checks for detail and accuracy before having their work approved by patent offices or published in appropriate journals.

A partner with Surrey-based Lucas & Co, Professor Cole is widely published in the field of intellectual property and patenting.

He was the founding editor of the publication ‘Intellectual Property Decisions’ and author of the book ‘Fundamentals of Patent Drafting’, published by the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).

Professor Cole has served as an examiner in patent drafting, and was a member of the committee that successfully negotiated with the UK government for High Court litigation rights for patent attorneys.

He lectures on patent law and practise at UK universities and at conferences organized by UK, US and Japanese professional organisations.
