This summer he acted as a leading academic figure on a mission to South Korea and Singapore, funded by the Department for Trade and Industry (DTI).

There, he and major industry figures investigated the technological issues affecting radio in these rapidly-moving countries. It was his second such event in two years, as in 2004 he was involved in a similar mission in Washington and New York.

After this mission, titled The Future of Radio - A mission to South Korea and Singapore, he was responsible for co-ordinating and editing a report publishing their findings. This report has just been launched at a high-profile industry seminar at The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) on Portland Place, London, chaired by Professor Street himself.

He explains that his participation in major events like these gives a major boost to his teaching. At Bournemouth University he is Professor of Radio, directs the MA Radio Production course and runs BIRSt, the Bournemouth Internet Radio Station.

"The whole process has been for me fascinating, and extremely valuable. It has been gratifying too, to be able to report this information directly back to my students on the MA Radio Production course, and to colleagues within The Media School. They will, I hope, pass on issues in my report in turn to their students," he said.

Seán spoke of the impressive reputation which The Media School enjoys: "It has also been pleasing to see with what high regard the work of the BMS is held - both within the UK industry and internationally. During my visits to the two countries related to this mission, I have met many major figures from their radio industries, from the Samsung Corporation and KBS (The State broadcaster in Korea) to Mediacorp, the principal broadcaster in Singapore, and everywhere the name of the The Media School has been met with recognition and respect."

"Projects such as this help not only keep The Media School at the forefront of international repute, but also demonstrate how well regarded the School's radio expertise is within the international arena," he said.
