Bournemouth BA (Hons) Multi-Media Journalism student, Neil Lancefield wins Daily Mirror and Students' Union Sports Journalism award for his work on the University's Student Press.
The third year student who was sports journalist for Bournemouth University's Student Press in his first year and sports editor in his second year attended the award evening held in London on Saturday (12th November).
The evening was hosted by Kate Lawler - ex-Big Brother winner and the award sponsored by Sport England was presented to Neil by Danny Crates, Paralympic 800m Gold Medallist along with a £500 cash prize.
Neil was selected as a winner by the judges for his work covering minority sports, maintaining reader's attention throughout and a mature writing style.
"I was absolutely amazed. I had no idea that I would actually win. I was up against some great universities. It feels fantastic to win the award and I’m pleased that it has given Bournemouth University’s Student Press some well deserved recognition." says Neil.
This is the National Union of Students and the Daily Mirror 58th National Student Journalism Awards – the oldest and most prestigious awards in student journalism.
Students are invited to submit their work in a total of thirteen categories including best newspaper, magazine reporter, website and critic. New categories this year include Best Student Investigative Journalism and Best Student Critic.
