Two BA (Hons) Interactive Media Production students will be jetting off to Austria next year after their work was short-listed for the Europrix Top Talent finals.

The Top Talent Festival, held across three days in Vienna next March, showcases and promotes students and young professionals, and honours their outstanding work in a glamorous last night award ceremony.

The projects of the two nominees, Andrew Devlin and Ben Webb, were chosen by a jury of international experts to be within 22 of the best entries among the 411 received for the competition. Entries came from 33 countries.

Both students, and their teams, will exhibit their work at the festival, making the event a platform for networking between other multi-media newcomers, instructors and European IT-industry and IT-media editors and journalists. Their projects will also be published in a Top Talent book and put onto a DVD that will tour Europe.

"I was overwhelmed when I heard I had been short-listed for the Europrix finals," says Andrew Devlin. His project, iCoach, is nominated for the best mobile programme. It allows sport coaches to create and save training sessions and match tactics to a database through a hand-held devise. "The trip to Vienna will be a great experience and it will be interesting to see what the other entries are like. Hopefully it will give me the chance to make many more industry contacts too," he adds.

Ben Webb was short-listed with his computer game, 'The Farm'. Both projects have also been nominated by the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) for awards.

Andrew’s project iCoach has been transferred from the 'student category' and placed by the judges alongside Orange in the commercial category - 'best mobile application'.

A third student, Ben Templeton, has also been shortlisted for BIMA with his guide to Amsterdam website 'FatAmsterdam'. The website offers users an interactive guide of Amsterdam, with 3D maps of prime locations, restaurants and accommodation, and encourages the sharing of stories and experiences among travellers.
"It was a shock to have made it so far through such a prestigious competition," said Ben. "I feel very lucky for all the support provided by The Media School in encouraging and funding my entry."

Mik Parsons, senior lecturer for the BA (Hons) Interactive Media Production course, says, "Over the last few years, we have been submitting work from students for these awards. The results have been exceptional - we have never failed to gain some nominations."

"This year's nominations are going to help these students greatly with their careers, and will continue to confirm the course's profile as one of the best."
