Media School Academic is only European academic on US PR body |
Dr Tom Watson, Reader in Communications at The Media School, has been appointed to the US-based Commission on Public Relations Measurement and Evaluation for a three year period.
He is the only European academic member of the Commission and is also on the editorial board of the Dictionary of Public Relations Measurement and Research that is published triennially by the Institute for Public Relations on behalf of the Commission.
“The Commission on Public Relations Measurement and Evaluation is the premier international body for the discussion and evolution of methodology and best practice in the evaluation of public relations and corporate communications activity,” said Dr Watson. “It addresses one of the top priority academic and practice issues in the public relations sphere.”
Established in 1999, it is based at the University of Florida ( Gainesville) and is operated by the Institute for Public Relations. Membership includes academics, practitioners and organisations offering commercial measurement services.
Academic members include leading public relations theorists such as James E. Grunig and David Dozier. Universities represented include Boston, Brigham Young, Florida, Maryland and San Diego State. Industry members include senior management from Ernst & Young, General Motors, Shell International, Texas Instruments and Visa.
It publishes both academic and best practice papers and holds an annual Measurement Summit in October each year. The papers are available online at http://www.instituteforpr.org/research/
