Liisa Rohumaa has been appointed Online Journalist in Residence in The Media School for the period January-July 2006.

Liisa is Deputy Editor of the Financial Times website, FT.com and leads a team of 60 journalists in London, New York and Hong Kong. Liisa previously worked for the Daily Telegraph, BBC Worldwide magazines, NatMags and The Stage. Ms Rohumaa said she was "very excited" to be taking on the new position.

During her time at The Media School Ms Rohumaa will help to develop thinking about the place of online journalism in the curricula of the BA and MA Multi-Media Journalism programmes, devise materials for the teaching of online journalism, act as a source of expertise for undergraduate and postgraduate students undertaking online and multi-media projects, and deliver masterclasses and guest lectures

Head of Journalism and Communication, David Bradshaw, said, "FT.com is one of the world's most prestigious online news sites and Liisa has played a leading part in its development over the past eleven years. Her impressive experience will be of enormous benefit to our students."

The post of Online Journalist in Residence is funded by The Media School's Centre for Excellence in Media Practice (CEMP), the only HEFCE-designated centre for excellence for teaching and learning in this subject area in the UK. The CEMP previously funded an Editor in Residence to work with the School's post production specialists.

CEMP Director Chris Wensley said, "One of the aims of the Centre is to develop further collaborations with our industry partners. The practitioner-in-residence scheme allows our students to work with media professionals to industry standards, thus producing confident, more reflective and better equipped graduates."
