BA (Hons) Public Relations graduate, James White, has secured a dream job at internationally-acclaimed PR consultants, Weber Shandwick, and is now part of their campaign to recruit more graduates.

He joined the multi-award-winning company in October 2005 and now works for the Square Mile department, one of the UK's leading financial communications consultancies.

James was full of praise for the course and how it prepared him to work in the industry, especially through the use of work placements.

"The course was fantastic in preparing me for a career in PR," he said. "The final year units that I did on Strategic Management and International Public Relations practice were particularly beneficial for the work I do here at Weber Shandwick.

The placement year provided me with a great insight into what a career in PR was going to entail. I did 3 months in-house at JPMorgan in their Bournemouth Operations Hub and then 6 months at a regional PR agency, Mosaic Publicity. Both organisations provided me with first-rate experience of the PR world and really prepared me for the types of tasks I perform on a day-to-day basis here at Shandwick," he added.

Placement experience plays a key role in many courses at Bournemouth University.

James was clearly pleased to be picked to star in Weber Shandwick's prestigious campaign.

"The graduate recruitment programme here is one of the most highly sought-after in the industry and attracted well over 500 applications last year for just 13 places," he said.

The rigorous assessment includes making presentations, as well as literacy, numeracy and psychographic tests. Gaining a place at the company is just the beginning, James explains:

"Once in the company, graduates are given every opportunity to push forward their careers - several senior people in my department joined the company on the graduate recruitment scheme. There is also scope to move internally to different departments as well as internationally to other divisions."
