Speakers have just been announced for this year’s Mike Warne Annual Marketing Communications Lecture 2013 taking place on 6 March 2013 at BU. |
The marketing topic for this year’s lecture is innovation. Speakers from three very diverse companies, Microsoft, Lush and Metail, will be taking the stand discussing what innovation means to them and their business.
Microsoft’s commercial marketing communications director, Tara Powadiuk, will give context and background to the innovation process which went into developing the new window operating system, Windows 8 back in 2009 until its launch in October last year, as well as an insight into some of the exciting future innovations currently being worked on by Microsoft research and development (R&D).
Poole’s own cosmetic success story, Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics, which has 870 shops in 51 countries are sending their creative team, Adam Goswell and Katrina Johnson, to explain the brand’s innovation and creativity and how they communicate digitally to a global audience. Their combined experience provides a unique approach to digital communications within such an inventive and revolutionary brand.
Also presenting is Tom Adeyoola, CEO and founder of Metail, the revolutionary body shape and garment fit visualisation company. Tom’s idea in 2008 was to create a virtual fitting room; that allows you to generate a model of yourself from an uploaded photograph and some basic measurements, to see how clothes fit and experiment with new trends when shopping online. Encouraged by breakthroughs in computer vision technology at Cambridge University Tom began to solve the ‘online fit problem’ in conjunction with co–founder Dr Duncan Robertson. Metail has since filed patents, developed a collaborative R&D relationship with Cambridge University and built a team dedicated to taking the guess work out of buying clothes on line that is now being snapped up by online retailers.
Returning for the seventh consecutive year, the lecture, organised by final year BA (Hons) Marketing students at Bournemouth University, is a key date in The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s event diary for local marketing practitioners, business professionals and students.
Final year marketing student Anna Dewdney who is the team’s PR liaison, explained: "This is a great opportunity to get hands–on experience organising a high profile business event and inviting leading edge marketers to share the secrets of their success. It gives us all a chance to showcase our skills and knowledge gained over the last three and a half years."
