BU students bring their written work to life on stage.

BA (Hons) English students have kicked off the start of term by bringing written work from their first year to life.

The idea came from Vicky Semple, a now second-year BA (Hons) English student who directed and organised the event.

She said “In our first year we were set an assignment: to write a script or short story of 1000 words. As the assignment date drew nearer people seemed to be really enjoying what they were working on and thought it would be fun to perform the work we had written.”

In a completely student-led project the students got to work on bringing their stories to the stage. For many this was a steep learning curve as few had acted on or written for the stage before.

Becki Barlow, a BA English student involved in the production said it was a great way to show off the work that had been produced in the first year. “Working with the cast and crew was a great experience as a writer, and I was so impressed by everyone's efforts,” said Becki who produced two pieces for the production: ‘Like you care’ and ‘Submarine’

Clips of all of the 1000 words productions can be viewed on YouTube. Below is Russell Healey’s production named “Nuts”
