Students from the Media and Business Schools recently joined forces to win the ‘NEW MEDIA’ Award at the European Television and Media Management Academy in Strasbourg.
Nilay Akhan, James Gater, Micheal Heap and Aysegul Yigitbasi competed against media students from 11 European colleges and universities. Their winning presentation incorporated a set of scenarios for an iPad-only Newspaper.
The team produced their winning effort after spending 24 hours in a specially equipped hotel room with a high speed Internet connection and access to tutors at specific times for advice and assistance. At the end of the exercise the team pitched their analysis and recommendations to a jury made up of media academics and professionals. The BU team members received a cash prize of €4000.
Nilay Akhan described this as: “One of the greatest experiences in my life. I feel that we owe this success and great experience to the unique education of The Media School at Bournemouth University.”
Michael Heap described the high pressure environment as “stimulating” and one in which “the absolute best is wrung from participants”.
Researchers from the Advances in Media Management (AiMM) research group in the Media School also played a central role in the case study challenge. Dr John Oliver wrote one of the case studies, Dr Sukhpreet Singh was an onsite tutor in Strasbourg and Dr Erickson was on the judging panel.
