Success for animation graduate at industry competition

MA 3D Computer Animation graduate takes second prize at the 2011 CG Whiz competition.

Leanne Towers, a graduate from the MA 3D Computer Animation course at BU, has taken second place in the amateur category at the 2011 CG Whiz competition.

Leanne, who studied her course at the NCCA in 2010-11, submitted a piece which was created as part of her final MA project during her time at BU.

CG Whiz is an annual competition run by Escape Studios which aims to discover future stars of the CG industry. The competition has now been running for three years and has developed a solid reputuation over this time, attracting some lucrative sponsors.

Leanne said it was “such an honour to be one of the finalists in the CG Whiz awards”. She cited her time at BU as a key factor in her success, adding “the Computer Animation course provided me with a platform to learn animation from having no previous experience and to be given this award on one of my first animations is really exciting!”

Sofronis Efstathiou, Senior Practice Fellow in Computer Animation, praised Leanne, saying “during her time with us, Leanne proved to be an excellent and conscientious student. All the staff and students at the NCCA are very proud of her accomplishments.”
