Scriptwriter Tony Jordan presents second and third place awards to BU Scriptwriting students |
Two BA (Hons) Scriptwriting for Film and Television students have bagged second and third place at the London Screenwriters' Festival 'Short Script' competition.
The winners, Henry Fosdike and Charlie Boddington, were presented their awards by Tony Jordan, who has worked on 'Hustle', 'Life on Mars', 'Eastenders' and numerous other well know television programmes.
Third year Henry came second for his script 'The Decision', which he describes as "about a job interview where the interviewee is ultimately forced to kill someone or risk death himself".
He continued: "It had a twist ending, which I think helped. I was delighted to win the award! There were 115 entrants, so to come second was a brilliant achievement. The ceremony was held after the Tony Jordan lecture, where he spoke about his career creating Life on Mars and Hustle. Charlie and I got to shake his hand, pose for a photo and then admire the trophy handed to us."
Second year Charlie scooped the bronze for his quirky entry about three desperate students at the London Screenwriters' Festival, hatching a plan to get their script to the famous writer Tony Jordan.
Charlie said: "I'm so happy and extremely grateful. It's the first time I've won anything so it's a really great boost personally and professionally!"
The awards were presented at a prestigious ceremony, which took place in London.
But what does the future hold for these bright young scriptwriting stars? Charlie said: "I'd like to be a proper professional working scriptwriter â?? showrunner of Doctor Who, to be exact!"
Henry, who wants to write films, added: "The course at BU has helped massively, not just improving my scriptwriting, but by providing brilliant opportunities to allow my work to be seen by people in the industry."
