A trio of BU Public Relations students have been selected to serve as social media advisors for Europe?s leading PR event this summer. |
BU is providing social media support for one of Europe’s leading public relations and corporate communications conferences.
Three final-year undergraduates studying for the BA (Hons) in Public Relations – Cara Parish, Sam Nickerson and Beth May (pictured above) – have been appointed as the social media advisors to the 2nd European Summit on Measurement to be held in Barcelona from June 16-18.
The conference, organised by the Association for Measurement & Evaluation of Communications (AMEC) of London and the US-based Institute for Public Relations, is the leading European conference for the measurement of public relations activity, a major professional practice issue.
The social media advisors are working closely with Barry Leggetter, AMEC’s executive director under the guidance of Dr Tom Watson, Deputy Dean of BU’s renowned Media School and a leading authority on measurement and evaluation. The students will disseminate news and build dialogue for the conference using Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn as part of the conference’s social media strategy.
“A strength of our Public Relations programme is its teaching of online PR,” said Dr Watson. “The conference offers an excellent opportunity for students to put this learning into action.”
Barry Leggetter said: “The BU team are playing a key role in engaging communications professionals with the Summit, and I hope they will benefit from the work on a personal level.”
The BA (Hons) Public Relations programme at BU is celebrating its 21st birthday this year. It was one of the first undergraduate programmes in the UK and continues to attract strong demand from potential students and for graduates from PR industry employers.
