ConSci staff work on Carbon Calculator |
Staff from Conservation Sciences have just completed work assisting a company, called CO2balance, with development of a 'carbon calculator'. This is an on-line tool designed to help people estimate their carbon emissions. Users enter their typical energy usage and travel patterns, then an estimate is provided of their annual carbon emissions.
The company also provides a means of offsetting carbon emissions, for example through supporting environmentally sound afforestation projects in places such as Dartmoor and Cumbria. The University's environmental policy identifies the need to significantly reduce the University's CO2 footprint, which currently stands at some 1882 tonnes of carbon per year. According the CO2balance, ofsetting this would cost some £17,000 annually.
