John Kent Institute in Tourism studentships selected

The first fully-funded PhD studentships at BU's John Kent Institute in Tourism have been awarded.

Four postgraduate researchers will take up the studentships in tourism research at the end of September, and the Institute will fund a further seven over the next three years.

The School of Tourism will support the studentships, which are offered in a range of industry-relevant topics to help improve the quality of the global tourism industry.

The John Kent Institute in Tourism was established in November 2009 through a gift made to the University by one of the world’s leading tourism entrepreneurs, John Kent.

The BU-based Institute will build on the School of Tourism’s world-class research strengths and research potential, and will strengthen the University’s global reputation as a leading provider of tourism research and education.
 
The first four researchers and their PhD subject titles are:

  • Nicolas Gregori: Innovative service marketing delivery using social media networking: Learning from review websites in the tourism/ hospitality industry
  • Zornitza Yovcheva: 3D mobile, context-aware tourism city applications: technology challenges and user requirements
  • Gregory Kapuscinski: Tourists, terrorism and the media
  • Ivana Rihova: Consumers as producers: the dimensions of consumer-to-consumer co-creation in the event experience
  • Barbara Neuhofer: Enhanced Tourist Experiences: A holistic exploration of how tourist experiences can be enhanced by technology.

Director of the Institute Professor Dimitrios Buhalis said: “It is a great pleasure to recruit students of this calibre and we look forward to welcoming them in the School and working together towards creating new and innovative knowledge.
