Graduate design best for festival survival

A pop-up tent designed by BU Product Design graduate has been voted top festival accessory by ‘The Gadget Show’.

Product Design graduate Franziska Conrad’s ‘Quick Pitch’ pop-up tent has been voted the number one festival accessory by Channel Five’s ‘The Gadget Show’.

The programme rated the top five essentials for the music festival season and Franziska’s design came out on top.

‘The Gadget Show’ host Jason Bradbury said: “Gone are the days when you need to spend hours banging tent plugs in with a hammer till your arms ache. This convenient tent will magically pitch up in a matter of seconds.

“While others around you are struggling to make their tent stand up, you'll be curled up warm inside away from the mud and rain.”

Franziska designed the tent as part of her final year project for her Product Design degree. It’s now being manufactured under license by Gelert – one of the UK’s biggest camping brands. The tent sold over 40,000 units in 2007.

BU’s commercialisation team continues to support Franziska in developing an innovative range of tents in partnership with Gelert.
