Highest quality assured for BU

BU receives the highest possible praise for the quality of its academic standards.

BU has been awarded the highest category of confidence by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).

The QAA has commended BU for maintaining the current and likely future management of the academic standards of its awards and the quality of the learning opportunities available to its students.

Auditors from the QAA for Higher Education visited BU early in December to carry out an institution-wide check of standards as part of a five-year review of all universities.

The good news from the QAA came as BU was celebrating its best ever results in the national Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). BU is the fourth most improved university in the UK in terms of research with 80% of the institution’s submissions to the RAE adjudged to feature ‘world leading’ research of the very highest level of international standing.

“The QAA announcement coupled with the RAE results released earlier this week reflects the highest accolades we could receive for the quality of our research and the education we offer,” said BU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Curran.

“I would like to thank my senior management and academic colleagues for their tremendous efforts on behalf of the University in assuring that we provide and maintain the best possible experience for our students.”

Professor Curran also paid tribute to Professor Rosemary Pope, BU’s former Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) who led the University’s preparations for the audit prior to her death in March of this year.
