Bournemouth University’s (BU) esteemed Visiting Professor, Anthony Lilley, will share his innovative thoughts on storytelling in the 21st century in a guest lecture at the Media School’s ‘Launch’ event on 24 May.

Professor Lilley said the lecture, entitled ‘The Future of Narrative’, will explore the social, technological and political changes we’re living through, adding: “This talk focuses on the narratives we tell, the way we tell them and why they matter. It is a wide-ranging exploration of how we'll tell stories in the 21st century and who will do the telling.”

An impressive career to date has led Professor Lilley to a BAFTA and Peabody Award for interactive media production and he has worked on numerous high profile projects such as Top Gear, Doctor Who, Teletubbies, Spooks, FourDocs, The Guardian and many others.

Professor Lilley is currently Chief Creative Officer and CEO of the production company Magic Lantern and he regularly shares his industry and academic expertise with staff and students in the Media School.

Fiona Cownie, Associate Dean of Media Production at BU said: “We are very privileged to have Anthony speaking at ‘Launch’ and I know our students and guests will really benefit from his insights and expertise. As well as his impressive string of practitioner work and awards Anthony is passionate about the future of media, making him a thought leader in this field.”

After his lecture Professor Lilley will have the opportunity to view the innovative and creative work produced by students, also allowing them to discuss, debate and obtain advice from an experienced media practitioner.

The work showcased at ‘Launch’ is a collection of projects created by BU’s final year Scriptwriting, Interactive Media, Television and Radio Production students. This includes original installations, mobile phone applications, documentary screenings, audio work and script performances.

‘Launch’ takes place from Tuesday 24 – Thursday 26 May in Kimmeridge House and Weymouth House, Talbot Campus, Bournemouth University.

Professor Anthony Lilley will give his guest lecture at 3:30 pm on Tuesday 24 May.
