Mexico project Prof. Matthew Bennett and colleagues in Mexico

Professor Matthew Bennett (EGS Group) has just returned from Mexico where he has been continuing his work on the NERC funded project into the early colonization of the Americas.

In addition to further work in the Valesquillo Basin south of Puebla on the controversial human footprint found there in 2003 the research team spent time around Saltillo in Northern Mexico exploring a new site with potential to add to the Quaternary record of Mexico. This work involved a mix of activities including surveying, three-dimensional laser scanning of trace fossils and sedimentology. It is hoped that this new site will make a significant contribution to our understanding of Mexican pre-history once the data has been full explored.
